1,183 CPA candidates in Quebec successfully complete the 2020 CFE!
 
Despite this year’s upheavals, 1,183 CPA candidates in Quebec successfully completed the 2020 CFE.

In September, 475 volunteers and employees of the Order were called upon to provide personalized supervision to CFE candidates in Quebec hotels and ensure optimal conditions for them regardless of the health crisis.

Among the 12 Quebec candidates who made the national Honour roll, Ariane Villemure will receive the Gold Medal in Quebec for her exceptional performance.

Federal Fall Economic Statement 2020

Provincial sales tax (PST) – Broadening PST registration requirements in the western provinces
The growth of e-commerce has led many provinces to amend their PST requirements. Henceforth, Saskatchewan and British Columbia are obliging non-resident businesses selling taxable goods and services on their territory to register for their PST.

Bill C-9: New amendments to CEWS
Bill C-9, which includes amendments to the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) and provisions of the Canada Rent Subsidy (CRS), has been given Royal assent. The amendments are posted on the CPA Canada website (November 3 update).

Application for tax benefits for businesses: Addition of discretionary power to extend the deadline
A discretionary power has been granted to the Minister of Revenue whereby the deadline for taxpayers to file an application for tax benefits for businesses, specifically for scientific research and experimental development, may be extended under exceptional circumstances and where there are reasonable grounds to do so.
