2009 Companion of the Order Recipient

Admitted to the Barreau du Quebec in 1981, Mtre Brizard worked for 12 years at the law firm of Desjardins Ducharme Stein Monast, first as an articling student, then as an employee and finally as a partner. From the outset, she represented the CA Order in various matters, including those involving illegal practice. In 1993, she founded Brizard Laflamme Robinson and became responsible for all the cases the Order entrusted to the firm. While continuing to handle illegal practice cases, Brizard is representing the Order in proceedings instituted by the CGA Order to have provisions concerning the exclusivity of public accounting practice in the Chartered Accountants Act declared unconstitutional.

In 1998, she joined the Order and set up the Legal Affairs Department. As department director, she was in charge of various, and at times highly complex, projects, where she demonstrated unswerving commitment and exemplary professionalism. In 2007, she was appointed Vice-president, Legal Affairs and Records. Over the years, Mtre Brizard has successfully represented the Order on a number of committees of the Quebec Interprofessional Council (QIC), including the legislation committee. She was also a member of the task force on the reduction of the regulatory burden and the task force on the practice of the profession within a partnership or a joint-stock company, both of which were created by the Ministere de la Justice as part of the action plan to update Quebec's professional system. Thanks to her expertise, know‑how and people skills, Mtre Brizard is one of the most respected lawyers within Quebec's professional system.

In addition, Mtre Brizard is involved in the Barreau du Quebec, where she is a member of its Disciplinary Council. She also teaches at the Ecole du Barreau and sits on the professional examination committee.
