Second edition of the CPA Student Congress a resounding success

Montreal, March 18, 2014 – Close to 200 students from 14 Quebec universities gathered in Saint-Sauveur from March 14 to 16 for the second CPA Student Congress. Presented by DECIMAL, the congress was organized this year by six accounting graduates from HEC Montréal, with the support and collaboration of the Ordre des CPA du Québec.

The event’s main objective is to recognize the achievements of CPA student committees and offer students a chance to build on their experience and learn more about the profession through educational conferences and activities. “It is important for us to provide future members of our profession, who are studying across Quebec, with an opportunity to bond with each other, share their knowledge with fellow students and enhance their education through a variety of activities. The vitality of the accounting profession inevitably involves accounting students, and we are proud to support them throughout the process leading to their professional designation,” said Daniel McMahon, FCPA, FCA, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Order.

The Order would therefore like to congratulate the students honoured during the congress:

Une fois c’t’un cas

The Order also held the 14th edition of the Une fois c’t’un cas interuniversity case-solving contest in January 2014. Working in three‑person teams, participants of the contest, reserved for undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 university credits, were given the mandate to solve a case study related to the practice of public accountancy.

The CPA Student Congress provided an opportunity to recognize the exceptional performance of the three winning teams, who shared a total of $3,600 in prizes courtesy of Desjardins, The Personal and TD Insurance Meloche Monnex.

1st place - $1,500: Université du Québec à Chicoutimi
