Montreal, October 29, 2013 – The Ordre des CPA du Québec welcomed Adam Koniuszewski, CPA, CA, CFA, chief operating officer of Green Cross International (GCI), who spoke before a full house last Thursday as the Order launched its Prestige Conference series. GCI is a Geneva-based environmental NGO dedicated to finding solutions to the intersecting challenges of security, poverty and the environment facing the world today.

Under the theme of 21st Century Green Capitalism, Mr. Koniuszewki presented real examples of low-carbon solutions that drive profits and generate employment, and explained how the environmental and economic revolution offers a tremendous opportunity for the accounting profession to position itself strategically. “Chartered professional accountants play a key role in the development and implementation of energy efficiency strategies and practices that help companies improve their environmental and economic performance and become more competitive,” said Mr. Koniuszewski.

The COO of Green Cross International also discussed the recent changes in Canadian and Quebec energy policies and their impact. “The international community would like to see Canada reclaim its place as a world leader in environmental matters and a champion of international cooperation and development. Quebec can take the lead of this economic and social transformation and become a productivity, innovation and performance driver,” added Mr. Koniuszewski. As Chair of the Order Stephan Robitaille, FCPA, FCGA, remarked: “This conference couldn’t have come at a better time considering the publication on September 27 of the 5th report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the recent signing of the Quebec-California carbon agreement.”

Prestige Conferences
For the president and CEO of the Order, Daniel McMahon, FCPA, FCA: “The Prestige Conferences are intended to give high-level personalities a unique showcase for addressing various topics covering today’s key economic, financial, social and political issues. They offer our members and anyone interested in these various challenges an opportunity to reflect on national and international activities that have a direct impact on the accounting profession.”
