Held in a 100% virtual format for the first time ever, this year’s Annual General Meeting brought together a record number of members from across Quebec and even abroad. This meeting provided the perfect opportunity to present the review of a historical year, one based on resilience and agility.

A decision that does some good: annual dues frozen for another year!
At the closing of the Annual General Meeting and the consultation on dues, the Board formalized the dues freeze for a second consecutive year. For 2021-2022, the dues of the members of the Order will, therefore, remain unchanged from 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.

2020 CFE: Show of solidarity for the future of the profession
The Common Final Examination was held on September 9, 10, and 11. No fewer than 475 volunteers and employees of the Order came together to ensure that this critical exam was held in a safe environment that set the tone for success. Thanks to their outstanding work, the CFE was conducted smoothly in a number of hotels across the province, in accordance with the safety measures in place.

A heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers who generously gave of their time to contribute to the success of the next generation of CPAs and congratulations to all of the candidates for the profession who took on the challenge!
 
Extension of telework for the Order’s teams
Committed to the health and safety of our employees and their loved ones, we’ve decided to maintain the telework policy in place until January 2021. ASPE Exposure draft: Recognition of COVID-19-Related Lease Concessions
Numerous enterprises are currently benefitting from rent concessions granted within the context of COVID-19. The guidance related to the accounting treatment for changes to an existing lease, which are found in Section 3065, “Leases”, may represent a daunting task. The AcSB proposes changes to Section 3065 to provide relief for both lessees and lessors regarding such concessions. The proposals notably contain examples of journal entries for the lessee and lessor.

Meal expenses: CRA increases the eligible amount from $17 to $23
The increases of the flat rate amount for meal claims and the reasonable amount for meal benefits and allowances are effective immediately and retroactive to January 1, 2020.
