Professionals and freedom of expression

The Disciplinary council of the Order recently rendered a significant decision on the ethical obligations of professionals in all areas of their lives. They concluded that while freedom of expression is a constitutional right, it does not authorize professionals to express themselves without restraint and to impair the public’s trust in the profession.

A better safety net to prevent financial abuse is needed

Before the parliamentary committee currently studying Bill 101, the Order maintained that all persons in vulnerable situations—whether or not they have been deemed incapacitated and whether they live at home or in the health and social services network—should benefit from the same safety net and protection. 

Simply put, we must take advantage of the bill being studied to close loopholes in reporting mechanisms and stand in the way of abusers.

The Order advocates for balance between the primacy of the French language and the protection of the public

In compliance with the government objective of modernizing and strengthening the Charter of the French language, the Order has entered the debate on Bill 96, maintaining that the primacy of the French language must not be achieved at the expense of the protection of the public.

To adequately support its members and ensure that they understand and comply with their various obligations, the Order is calling for sufficient autonomy to communicate verbally with them in their more fluent language.

Immediate expensing of certain capital expenditures

The 2021 federal budget included a proposal to allow CCPCs to immediately expense certain capital expenditures acquired as of April 19, 2021. The Government of Quebec has announced its intention to adopt the measure. The bill, however, has not been tabled, and the deduction is currently being denied by tax authorities.
