Maltreatment of seniors: Be aware

In practising your profession, you may witness material and financial abuse. The Act to combat maltreatment has recently been amended to clarify the obligation, despite professional secrecy, to report certain situations of maltreatment against seniors or other adults in vulnerable situations. As professionals, CPAs must comply with this obligation or risk criminal penalties up to $25,000. Be alert!
