Because the Foundation knows that education is important and wants to have a positive impact on young people from underprivileged backgrounds, we have decided to team up with Educaid to help high school students to stay in school. Accordingly, starting in the 2018-2019 school year, the Foundation will support 20 students for 3 years through the Persévéra Program, which amounts to a total investment of $32,700.
The Persévéra Program assists secondary 3 students from underprivileged backgrounds who show outstanding willpower and persistence. An annual $500 scholarship will be offered to these students in order to give them every chance to obtain their first diploma.
The scholarships are managed entirely by school teams and can be used to purchase school supplies, computer equipment and clothes and participate in sociocultural excursions and other activities. They will be given on a recurring basis until the first diploma (SSD or SSVD) has been obtained, provided the students continue to show a desire to succeed.
Eligible students and schools
To be eligible, students must be in their 3rd year of high school when they are nominated. In addition, they must attend a high school with a decile rank of 9 or 10 based on the classification of the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l'Enseignement supérieur.
Student and candidate characteristics
In addition to the abovementioned eligibility criteria, candidates must absolutely show a desire to stay in school, put forth the necessary efforts to succeed and demonstrate that they are improving their behaviour, attitude or academic performance.
The candidates are managed by Educaid and participating schools. Candidacies are analyzed by Educaid's education and scholarship award committee.
