What is the difference between the types of e-learning activities?

  • A webinar is a live training activity which you must attend at the date and time indicated. You may access the training platform in your online file 7 days before the date of the webinar. We strongly recommend that you log in to the platform before the date of the webinar and follow the instructions in step 3 of your training path beforehand in order to test your computers’ configuration and prevent any connexion problems during your training activity.
  • Web conferences, web interviews, interactive training activities, webcasts and online training activities are recorded training activities. They can be accessed at all times after their availability date.

General objective

This training activity provides the opportunity to view the controllership role as a leader and a key strategic partner within the organization while providing participants with practical tips on how to enhance their leadership skills. During the seminar, participants will reflect on their own competencies as a catalyst and learn strategies for improving their leadership abilities. Effective controllers must possess emotional intelligence and successfully interact with people across the various generations. Accordingly, this session provides tips for working with people of all ages and on how emotional intelligence can play an important role in managing and leading others. 

In addition to increasing their knowledge about the catalyst role, participants will consider the way in which they can add value as strategic thinkers/leaders in their organizations by understanding and expanding their functionality in this area. Finally, the seminar addresses the controller’s role as a change/conflict/crisis manager, which constitutes an area of increasing importance within a changing economic environment.



Many contemporary controllers feel torn between their multitude of responsibilities and confused about their distinct roles. This seminar alleviates much of that anxiety by clarifying these responsibilities and providing an in-depth examination of two roles among the major four of steward, operator, catalyst, and strategist. As a companion seminar to Controllership: Operational Management, this seminar focuses on the roles of catalyst and strategist. In addition, this seminar provides the opportunity to view the controller as a leader and a key strategic partner within the organization while providing participants with practical tips on how to enhance their leadership skills.


By the end of this training activity, participants will be able to:

  • identify the type of leader they are or want to become by considering different perspectives on leadership and understand how their leadership style reflects these perspectives;
  • describe what emotional intelligence is and how it affects the workplace;
  • examine how different generations think, work, and interact and identify strategies to work with people from each of the generations;
  • determine what type of strategy is appropriate for the organization they are in and determine how they can play a role in strategy development and implementation;
  • understand the controller’s role in change, conflict and crisis management.

Target audience

This training activity will benefit finance professionals working towards a controller position or who are new to the position of controller, or long-time controllers looking for new tools/ideas or a refresher on strategic leadership areas of the role.
