Montreal, April 14, 2016 – As part of its efforts to make a positive impact on society, the Foundation of Quebec CPAs is proud to announce the creation of a new scholarship program to provide financial support to five students in need and Syrian refugees each year.

“Commitment and openness are two of the values that define the CPA profession. Today’s announcement gives actual substance to these values and sets the stage for actions that will make a real difference,” said Foundation Chair Brigitte Chartier, CPA, CA.

Increasing access
A lack of money should never be an obstacle to achieving our dreams. This is why it is important to support the profession’s most promising hopefuls by offering them financial assistance to make their career plans a reality.

The first component of the scholarship program is intended for students in the process of registering in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) delivered by universities accredited by the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec (the Order) or in the national program delivered by the Order. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate that they need financial support to help them pay the fees required to complete the CPA Professional Education Program. Three $10,000 scholarships will be awarded under this program component.

Supporting Syrian refugees
In recent months, the Syrian refugee crisis has galvanized Quebecers and Canadians to respond, prompting the Canadian government to implement a massive resettlement plan. The Foundation wishes to do its share to make integrating these newcomers a humanitarian success.

The second component of the scholarship program is intended specifically for Syrian refugees wishing to register soon for the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) delivered by universities accredited by the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec (the Order) or in the national program delivered by the Order. To qualify, applicants must have arrived in Quebec between December 12, 2015 and February 29, 2016, be trained as accountants or have completed university accounting studies in their home country, and demonstrate that they need financial support to help them pay the fees required to complete the CPA Professional Education Program. Two $10,000 scholarships will be awarded under this program component.

“In addition to pursuing its efforts to support excellence, with today’s announcement, the Foundation will ensure better access to the accounting profession and contribute to the CPA Order’s societal role,” added Geneviève Mottard, CPA, CA, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Order.

Call for applications
Applicants have until 4:00 p.m. on October 28, 2016 to submit their applications.
