The CPA Order welcomes the publication of the Charbonneau Commission report

Montreal, November 24, 2015 – The Quebec CPA Order welcomes the publication of the final report of the Commission of Inquiry on the Awarding and Management of Public Contracts in the Construction Industry and recognizes the significant work done by the Commission members in analyzing the findings and making their recommendations.

The Commission conducted its work as Quebecers looked on with unprecedented dismay and indignation. The population now rightly expects that decisive and constructive measures will be taken to address both the inefficiency, or the outright absence, of oversight and control mechanisms that would rigorously and efficiently neutralize the collusion and corruption schemes brought to light and documented by the Commission, and the lack of accountability of managers and executives. The Commission’s final report will be instrumental in achieving this.

The CPA Order participated in the Commission’s work in July 2014. Its contribution focused mainly on the control and supervision processes needed to thwart collusion and corruption schemes.

The CPA Order will take the necessary time to analyze the report and the 60 recommendations to identify the issues that concern the accounting profession. The different levels of government can count on the cooperation of both the Order and the accounting profession to implement the Commission’s recommendations.
