Quebec City, December 5, 2013 –The Quebec City CPA Group brilliantly marked the end of Financial Literary month by donating piggy banks and some 20 copies of A Parent's Guide to Raising Money-Smart Kids to the Marguerite-Bourgeoys elementary school of the Commission scolaire de la Capitale. Written by Robin Taud in 2011 and edited for publication by the Chartered Accountants of Canada, now CPA Canada, this practical guide helps adults simplify financial matters for children.

According to Vicky Lizotte, CPA, CA, chair of the Quebec City CPA Group, elementary school is where children must begin to learn about money. “As a chartered professional accountant and mother, I believe kids should be taught basic concepts about sound money management from an early age in order for them to have all the tools they need to manage their assets throughout their life. The Quebec City CPAs are very proud to support the school’s efforts by offering these books and piggy banks, a symbol of savings for kids,” said Ms. Lizotte.

Various aspects of money management—Earn, Save, Spend, Share and Invest—are addressed in the guide. Throughout the different chapters, the author suggests a number of activities and topics for discussions with children kids to help reinforce the concepts illustrated. “Thanks to this donation from the Quebec City CPA Group, we can provide a book to each classroom in our school and expand our library. On behalf of the school’s entire team, I would like to thank the Quebec City CPAs for their generosity,” said France Joly, principal of Marguerite-Bourgeoys school.
