In October 2013, CPA Canada will be holding consultations with interested stakeholders to obtain their input on three very important projects being undertaken by the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) to revise existing standards or propose new standards.

CPA Newsletter • The Order’s head office relocates
As of August 26, the Order’s head office (393 St-Jacques Street) will be temporarily relocated to 4 Place Ville Marie. The staff of the Executive Office, Legal Affairs, as well as Public Affairs and Communications will therefore not be reachable on Friday, August 23, the day of the move. They will gradually return on Monday, August 26.

New reporting requirements for filing CRA Form T1135
In June 2013, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced new requirements for Canadians with offshore property and income. The following article by Alexandre Bouffard, CPA, CGA, a member of the Order’s Technical Working Group on Taxation and Commodity Taxes, provides a reminder of the applicable tax rules for the purposes of filing Form T1135 and an overview of the changes to the form.

Brief on D’Amours Report findings
The Ordre submitted a French brief to the Public Finance Committee as part of special consultations to study the report entitled Innover pour pérenniser le système de retraite. The Order stressed the importance of getting back to the very essence of our retirement system whose aim is to provide sufficient income to sustain an adequate standard of living in retirement, in keeping with our collective ability to pay.

CPA Newsletter • Practice of public accountancy and issue of audit and review reports: permit mandatory for all CPAs
Since May 16, 2013, all CPAs who wish to practice public accountancy and issue audit and review reports must hold a public accountancy permit. Note that CPA, CGAs and CPA, CMAs had until May 15, 2013 to apply for recognition of their acquired rights and obtain a limited public accountancy permit.

The Ordre des CPA du Québec honours its first nine Fellow Chartered Professional Accountants
Over 150 people gathered last Saturday at the Delta Centre-Ville in Montreal for the memorable Soirée des Fellows, the first such event organized by the Ordre des CPA du Québec which recently celebrated its first anniversary. The prestigious title of Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant was awarded to nine members, and the Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to an FCPA.
