On November 16, 2012, the prestigious Ambassadors Gala was held at the Sheraton Centre in Montreal. The Order rolled out the blue carpet for the occasion in honour of the 95 new members from the CPA, CMA and CPA, CMA-MBA executive programs, as well as eight new FCPAs and the recipients of numerous awards and distinctions.

CPA Newsletter • CMA Canada Special General Meeting: CPA, CMAs invited to participate for the future of the profession
CMA Canada will hold a Special General Meeting on December 11, 2012 to have its membership approve a resolution enabling the participation of CMA Canada with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) in the creation of CPA Canada.

CPA Newsletter • Are you a CPA, CGA or CPA, CMA who engages in public accountancy activities but does not hold a public accountancy permit?
You have until May 15, 2013 to apply for recognition of your acquired rights granted under section 65 of the CPA Act, by submitting an application for a public accountancy permit. If you have not applied for and obtained a “limited” permit by May 15, 2013, you will no longer be permitted to sign review and audit engagement reports you were authorized to sign up until then.

Since October 1, 2012, the CPA brand is being promoted across Quebec on super boards, in the Montreal metro, on city buses and university campuses. This first-ever advertising campaign of the Order is intended to build awareness of the CPA brand, change the public’s perception of the accounting profession and ensure that it stands out among the other professions.

CPA Newsletter • The Foundation of Quebec CPAs now established!
The Order is proud to announce that the Foundation of Quebec CPAs was established on August 31, 2012. Thanks to the synergy created by the merger of the Foundations of Quebec CAs and CMAs, in the coming months, the new Board of the Foundation of CPAs will be able to promote education and the development of knowledge in the accounting profession’s areas of expertise.

Today, the Order is launching its new Job Centre, a genuine spin-off of the unification of the profession that all CPAs can now enjoy. The Job Centre provides free access to a job board that is updated daily. You will find the latest employment offers in every issue of the CPA Newsletter.

Given the unification of the accounting profession in May 2012, three professional development programs are offered exceptionally this year, each with its own fee schedule. The first combined program, offering all CPAs the same member price, will be available in September 2013.

This week, focus on the issuance of public accountancy permits relating to acquired rights of CPA, CGAs and CPA, CMAs, the use of the expressions “professional accountant” and “public accountant,” the Ordre’s suggestion for indicating university qualifications and professional designations in signatures and the time limit granted to members for making the changes.
