Montreal, September 24, 2016 – This past Monday, the Foundation of Quebec CPAs raised $60,000 during its 2016 golf tournament at the Pinegrove Country Club in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Geneviève Mottard, CPA, CA, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Quebec CPA Order, served as honorary chair of the event, which drew 125 CPAs and business people from all backgrounds to support the next generation.

Ms. Mottard took the opportunity to declare that education is one of the best investments society can make. “In terms of social progress and economic development, we all come out ahead if, in training the next generation, we convey the values that characterize the CPA profession, namely integrity, excellence, rigour, commitment and openness,” Ms. Mottard said.

Because the Foundation firmly believes that lack of money should never stand in the way of realizing one’s dreams, it will allocate most of the funds collected this year to support students who need financial assistance to make their career plans a reality. That is why, earlier this year, the Foundation created five $10,000 scholarships for students in need and Syrian refugees who are in the process of registering in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP). The new scholarships will be awarded for the first time this coming November.

Foundation Chair Brigitte Chartier, CPA, CA, pointed out that “thanks to the support of thousands of CPAs, businesses and firms, the Foundation has been able to hand out $1.7 million in scholarships, awards and grants to some 1,150 CPAs and future CPAs across Quebec since its creation four years ago.” Ms. Chartier also took the opportunity to acknowledge the substantial backing the Foundation has received from the CPA Order.

The Foundation would like to thank the patrons of honour and partners of the golf tournament, who made the event a resounding success.
