Montreal, November 1, 2016
– November is Financial Literacy Month in Canada, and the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec (the Order) and the Quebec Public Library Association (ABPQ) are joining forces to rollout CPA Canada’s Financial Literacy program across Quebec.

More than 100 financial literacy sessions will be offered in all regions of the province. Over 60 volunteer CPAs will share their knowledge on a range of topics covering all stages of life: teaching kids about money, planning for retirement, estate planning, identity theft protection, fraud protection for seniors, saving strategies, and many more. The talks will be presented in public libraries throughout Quebec, from Thetford Mines to Rimouski to Baie-Comeau.

“For Quebec’s public libraries, it is essential that individuals have an opportunity to acquire basic financial skills, regardless of their age or financial situation,” said Stéphane Legault, Chair of the ABPQ. “Financial literacy aligns perfectly with our libraries’ overall mission to promote literacy.”

“This is a significant partnership for the Order, since it allows us to leverage the expertise of CPAs for the benefit of the general public,” noted Geneviève Mottard, CPA, CA, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Quebec CPA Order. “According to a recent survey we conducted, Quebecers overestimate their knowledge of personal finance. This initiative therefore addresses a real need.”
