Results of the CPA, CA entrance exam released: 642 Quebec candidates pass the 2012 Uniform Evaluation

Montreal, November 30, 2012 – The long-awaited results of the 2012 Uniform Evaluation (UFE) were released this morning. The Ordre des CPA du Québec is pleased to announce that 642 Quebec candidates passed the profession’s entrance exam (CPA, CA path). The growing number of successful candidates shows that more than ever the accounting profession is an appealing career choice for young people entering the job market. There is no doubt that excellent training and high quality educational material are making a difference.

“I would like to congratulate the 642 candidates who outdid themselves at the UFE. It is a privilege to know we can count on this future generation whose know-how, expertise and talent will allow them to become business leaders and excellent ambassadors of the CPA profession. Today, the confidence and determination they have shown in reaching their goal have paid off. I would like to acknowledge the remarkable work of the training employers and university professors who supported and guided them in their training,” noted Order Chair Stephan Robitaille, FCPA, FCGA.

National Honour Roll

This year, an impressive number of Quebecers (10) ranked among the 59 candidates who earned a place on the UFE Honour Roll of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, which recognizes the highest standings in Canada on the UFE. “The Order is proud to have such a large number of top candidates among its future members. They represent excellence and are headed for a great future. I am certain they will become key players in their professional environment and their community,” commented Daniel McMahon, FCPA, FCA, President and CEO of the Order.

Jonathan Dubuc distinguished himself and was awarded the Chartered Accountants of Canada Gold Medal and a $2,500 cash prize for the highest standing in Quebec at the 2012 Uniform Evaluation.

The UFE: a rigorous competency-based evaluation

The three-day Uniform Evaluation is held simultaneously across Canada. The purpose of the UFE is to measure candidates' ability to integrate their knowledge and skills as well as to analyze, process and effectively communicate information. Candidates have to demonstrate that they have acquired the competencies needed to become professional accountants and to work in public practice, in industry, and in public and parapublic sector organizations.

After passing the UFE and completing their training period, candidates can use the CPA, CA designation. UFE subject matter includes assurance, financial performance and information measurement, governance, strategy and risk management, corporate finance, management decision-making and taxation.

CPAs are professionals recognized for their rigor, acumen, versatility and credibility. They have been trained to be the best in their area of expertise, and their skills enable them to serve businesses, organizations and the general public.
