Montreal, June 5, 2013 – Over 150 people gathered last Saturday at the Delta Centre-Ville in Montreal for the memorable Soirée des Fellows, the first such event organized by the Ordre des CPA du Québec which recently celebrated its first anniversary. The prestigious title of Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant was awarded to nine members, and the Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to an FCPA whose professional accomplishments, community involvement, determination and leadership reflect her distinctive personality.

This colourful evening, hosted by none other than Raymond Cloutier, a leading figure in theatre, provided the perfect setting for guests to celebrate this important milestone in the career of a colleague, friend or parent.

Monique F. Leroux, FCPA, FCA, President, CEO and Chair of Desjardins Group, received the Outstanding Achievement Award for her exceptional contribution to the accounting profession throughout her career. The first woman to lead a financial institution in Canada, Ms. Leroux started her career with Ernst & Young and quickly became a partner. She then moved on to RBC Royal Bank, Quebecor and Desjardins Financial Corporation. Since she took the reins of Desjardins Group, the institution’s excellent performance has been noted on many occasions. A member of the Order of Canada and a Knight of the French Legion of Honor, Ms. Leroux has received numerous awards and distinctions. She is also very involved in the community and gives generously of her time to many organizations. This prominent figure among the financial elite of Quebec and Canada is without doubt a shining example for all CPAs.
