Montréal, June 4, 2020 – In response to the announcement of a cybersecurity breach that involved CPA Canada data and led to phishing activity, the Quebec CPA Order would like to provide the following clarifications.

The Quebec CPA Order was not a target of this cyberattack. There are no computer or technology links between CPA Canada and the Quebec CPA Order. The Quebec CPA Order’s websites, network and technology infrastructure, and systems are completely separate and independent from CPA Canada’s. The Quebec CPA Order’s websites and platforms were not targeted by this cyberattack.

The information that the Quebec CPA Order shares with CPA Canada is limited in nature and scope. Some Order member information (such as name, sex, year of birth, contact email address) is sent to CPA Canada on a regular basis, in accordance with the terms and conditions of a written agreement between the two organizations and Order members’ consent.

The Quebec CPA Order does not store any credit card numbers. For security reasons, the Quebec CPA Order does not store any credit card numbers, so it cannot share such information with anyone. Any credit card numbers in CPA Canada’s data come from direct transactions between members and CPA Canada.

“The Quebec CPA Order’s priority is protecting member information. To ensure the security of our facilities and data, we implement a series of detection and prevention measures that are consistent with best practices,” said Geneviève Mottard, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Order.

CPA Canada has set up a helpline for those affected by the breach. As well, the Quebec CPA Order team is available to anyone with questions or concerns.
