The Ordre des CPA du Québec welcomes WorldCom whistleblower
For its second Prestige Conference, the Ordre des CPA du Québec welcomed Cynthia Cooper, CEO of the CooperGroup. Named one of Time Magazine’s Persons of the Year in 2002, Ms. Cooper is best known for blowing the whistle on WorldCom’s fraud schemes and exposing one of the largest financial scandals in history.

On September 8, 2014, the Foundation of Quebec CPAs held its annual golf tournament at the Saint‑Raphaël Golf Club in Île-Bizard. The commitment to the next generation of accounting professionals was clearly demonstrated by the many participants who helped raise a record $101,000.

$31,000 to support Quebec's next generation of accounting professionals
The Foundation of Quebec CPAs held its prestigious wine and cheese event on May 29 in Montreal. Thanks to the many people who attended the event and their commitment towards the next generation of accounting professionals, a grand total of $31,000 was raised. The funds will go to many students from across Quebec in the form of scholarships and awards.

19 CPAs awarded the title of Fellow in honour of their exceptional career
On May 24th, the Ordre des CPA du Québec proudly honoured 19 chartered professional accountants by bestowing upon them the prestigious title of Fellow Chartered Professional Accountant (FCPA) at the FCPA Crystal Ball, hosted by the dazzling Geneviève Borne. The gala evening included the presentation of the 2014 Outstanding Achievement Award to an FCPA.

1,361 new accounting professionals joined the Ordre des CPA du Québec in 2013-2014
The Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec proudly celebrated the entry of 175 new CPAs into the profession during the prestigious Permit Presentation ceremony held on Saturday at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. Hosted by Olympic champion Sylvie Bernier, this event marks the culmination of a rigorous process to achieve excellence undertaken by these new members of the Order. Since April 2013, the Order has welcomed a total of 1,361 new CPAs to the pros.

Second edition of the CPA Student Congress a resounding success
Close to 200 students from 14 Quebec universities gathered in Saint-Sauveur from March 14 to 16 for the second CPA Student Congress. Presented by DECIMAL, the congress was organized this year by six accounting graduates from HEC Montréal, with the support and collaboration of the Ordre des CPA du Québec.

The CPA Order donates a total of $9,182 to Centraide and the Red Cross
Thanks to its annual workplace fundraising campaign, the Ordre des CPA du Québec is pleased to present a cheque for $6,945 to Centraide of Greater Montreal, and another for $2,237 to the Canadian Red Cross. These donations were collected from Order employees during 2013.

Quebec can and must do better
As part of the pre-budget consultations currently underway, the CPA Order submitted a brief today to Minister of Finance and the Economy Nicolas Marceau that includes 17 recommendations. The main conclusion of the brief is that now more than ever Quebec’s economic environment needs a major overhaul.
