The Quebec CPA Order welcomes the publication of the final report of the Commission of Inquiry on the Awarding and Management of Public Contracts in the Construction Industry and recognizes the significant work done by the Commission members in analyzing the findings and making their recommendations.

The Foundation’s 2015 golf tournament: another successful year!
The Foundation of Quebec CPAs held its annual golf tournament on September 14 at Saint-Raphaël Golf Club on Île-Bizard. Under the honorary chairmanship of Guy Blanchette, FCPA, FCA, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer at Lassonde Industries, the many participants once again showed their commitment to the next generation of accounting professionals by helping to raise nearly $87,500.

Taxation and government program review: Quebec at a turning point
“Quebec’s tax reform and program review provide a rare opportunity that should be used to get to the bottom of things, and to dare examine our ways of doing things and the policies we thought were untouchable.” Such is the challenge issued by the Quebec CPA Order to the Committee on Public Finance, which is looking at the report of the Quebec Taxation Review Committee (the Godbout Report) just as the Robillard Commission released its second report earlier this week.

Balanced budget achieved. Next step: stimulate the economy.
The Quebec CPA Order recognizes the government’s determination to achieve the needed balanced budget that will pave the way to measures aimed at stimulating the economy. In attendance at the tabling of the 2015-2016 budget in Quebec City, Daniel McMahon, FCPA, FCA, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Order, scrutinized the budget in light of the four criteria he considers crucial: rigour, efficiency, transparency and simplicity.

The Quebec CPA Order has reviewed the final report of the Québec Taxation Review Committee released today and would like to commend the committee for the thorough work it conducted in tabling a report that will be of great use to Quebec society. The Order had been calling for such an exercise for many years.

The CPA Order presents the Outstanding Achievement Award and welcomes 12 new Fellows
Today, the Quebec CPA Order released the names of the 12 chartered professional accountants who received the prestigious title of Fellow (FCPA) this year. The Order also announced the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Achievement Award presented to an FCPA in recognition of his numerous professional achievements, extensive community service, determination and exemplary leadership.

A PROductive third CPA Student Congress
More than 150 students from 14 Quebec universities gathered at Hôtel Sacacomie in Saint-Alexis-des-Monts from March 13 to 15 for the 3rd edition of the CPA Student Congress. Hosted by Norampac/Cascades, this year’s congress was organized by the CPA Student Committee of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, with the support and collaboration of the Quebec CPA Order.

The CPA Order is recommending modernizing Quebec taxation through a major shift towards transparency, efficiency and accessibility. This is the focus of the 11 major recommendations the CPA Order presented today to Finance Minister Carlos Leitao as part of the Quebec government’s prebudget consultations.

Spotlight on excellence at the Ambassadors Gala of the Quebec CPA Order
Last Saturday, an impressive cohort of 103 graduates of the CPA, CMA and CPA, CMA-MBA executive programs were welcomed into the profession during the Ambassadors Gala of the Quebec CPA Order, hosted by Anne-Marie Withenshaw. This wonderful event also provided an opportunity to present the CPA Awards of Excellence, the Fernand-Cloutier Award and the QIC Award of Merit to chartered professional accountants who have made their mark.
