Gary Wechsler – Récipiendaire 2013

Gary Wechsler is recognized by his peers as a talented innovator and leader and holds leadership positions in many professional and community organizations. In addition to having been a key member of numerous committees of the Ordre des CA over the last 30 years, he has served the community through his work with the Jewish General Hospital, the Jewish General Hospital Foundation and Solomon Schechter Academy. At both of these organizations, Mr. Wechsler has led by example and been promoted from Treasurer and/or Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee to Board Chair and President.

As Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee of the Jewish General Hospital, he was instrumental in overseeing a budget of approximately $300 million and ensuring that the hospital complied with all government regulations. Thanks to his leadership and creative thinking, he was elected to the President’s Advisory Committee in 2005, its youngest ever elected member. After demonstrating leadership, expertise, forward thinking and dedication, he was asked to join the Board and Executive Committee of the Hospital Foundation, where he contributed a wealth of knowledge, discipline and expertise. Most recently, he was elected Chair of the Audit and Finance Committee for the Neurodevelopment Network, the center of excellence for pediatric neurology.

Mr. Wechsler was active in all areas at Solomon Schechter Academy and continues to be an advisor to the Head of the school. As its President, he led the successful negotiation of the collective agreement with the Teacher’s Union that is still in effect today. In addition to this office, he chaired the Bursary Committee and the Audit and Finance Committee.

Throughout his career, he has displayed true professionalism and sound decision-making ability that has brought honour to the entire profession.
